Holiday in Handcuffs (2007) Review

Trudie (Hart) is a struggling artist who was working as a waitress and heading to a log cabin to spend Christmas with her family. Until a big problem occurs as she is about to leave with her boyfriend Nick, he breaks up with her. In a panic Trudie then kidnaps stranger David (Lopez) and intends on passing him off as her boyfriend Nick.

A made for TV Christmasy movie with two very well-known tv stars in Sabrina the Teenage Witch and AC Slater from Saved By The Bell. Yes I am sure many people my age would also think the same thing seeing Hart and Lopez share the screen. Two tv programmes that I really enjoyed watching growing up. This film was on TV late a couple of nights ago and whilst I thought it was predictable and not the best I found myself watching it all.

It was charming and had a very nice Christmas message about family, and how that should be the most important thing at this time of year. It also shows us how many secrets a family can keep from each other and the lengths they all go to avoid letting the others know. Extreme, but kidnapping a random man and making him pretend to be your boyfriend would be in that category. The Christmas dinner scene was always going to be when all the secrets came out and was a pretty good way to do it.

Throughout the film it was obvious that Trudie and David were really going to fall for each other as that’s just how it works at the movies. But while it was obvious it was what you found yourself really wanting to see. They just worked together and seemed to understand each other more than anyone else in there lives.

While this was by know means the best film ever, it wasn’t the worst either. If it is on around Christmas it doesn’t hurt to watch it. Not that I am saying go out and watch it now. It does have the nice family Christmas message.
