Having seen Dreamgirls on Friday night I thought it was more than worth having this as the Musical Moment this Monday! With three different versions of the song, considering Amber Riley aka Mercedes from Glee was in the show first here is the clip of her performing from Graham Norton just before Dreamgirls opened in the West End.
Yes, you guessed it after seeing the show in the West End on Wednesday I am even more obsessed with it. I have seen bought both concert anniversary versions and re-watched the film. So I thought that I needed to have it as today’s musical moment, I have decided to pick ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ who cannot at times relate to this haunting song and let’s face it this rendition won Anne Hathaway a Best Supporting Actress Oscar!
Alicia Vikander for The Danish Girl
The main problem for this category in my opinion is that two of the nominees (Mara and Vikander) weren’t actually in a supporting role and were actually leading roles. I am pretty sure a lot of people will agree on that especially if you have seen the performances.
Continuing my good form of seeing the Oscar nominated films I am pleased to say that I have seen all five of the films for the nominated actresses in a supporting role. Another pretty strong category and with what everyone thinks will be a clear winner. Surely we are in for some surprises and people picking up the awards that are not so expected? Well we certainly have to hope so due to the fact that if everything is as widely predicted it will be rather boring. So I am going to have my last say on the actresses in a supporting role and pleased to say that I actually enjoyed all five of these films!
If you have read this blog before you will therefore know that love musicals a lot. So as you can imagine I went to the cinema to see this in the previews back when it came out, and have therefore seen it lots of times. I have to admit that I was not its biggest fan when I first saw it, I liked it quite a bit but didnt totally fall for it on the first viewing. However, each time I watch it I like it more and more. Especially watching Jennifer Hudson who totally deserved her Oscar for Best supporting Actress in her first movie role.
Last night after hearing the news of Patrick Swayze’s passing, I just had to watch “Ghost”. Ok so it was going to “Ghost” followed by “Dirty Dancing” but I had not long ago watched that. So decided to just focus on “Ghost”. With the famous pottery scene, unchained melody and Whoopi Goldberg winning an Oscar in the Supporting Actress role.
