Feel free to judge me but I don’t really care! I certainly have some strange obsessions and fangirl moments over older men. I am hoping that with this post people will either agree, understand where I am coming from or just respect my total honesty in admitting my random obsessions. This has often resulted into buying a lot of older films and rushing out to see the latest release from that actor and generally just well loving them!
Alec Baldwin
After seeing It’s Complicated I totally loved him, yes I know really not from one of his older films but a more recent one. That then grew to watching his latest films and TV shows, also loving those incredible UK adverts!
Bill Nighy
This one ended well when I actually got to meet him and have a photo taken at the stage door after seeing him in a play in the West End. Like most people this one started with Love Actually! I have therefore since rushed to see every one of his cinema release films, which has been both good and bad due to some films his screen time is not massive!
Mickey Rourke
Again this came from seeing him rather messed up in The Wrestler I am still gutted he didn’t walk away with the Best Actor Oscar that year as I really thought he deserved it! I will admit that I have since bought quite a lot of his back catalogue but haven’t had a chance to watch them.
Richard Gere
Shall We Dance? Was the film that really made me love him, probably not a normal thing for how old he was when I first saw this film. I did redeem myself by also then watching An Officer and a Gentleman. Come on who doesn’t love Gere?
Colin Firth
Who didn’t fall in love with Mark Darcy? Even though not one of us would actually pick him over someone like Daniel Cleaver, we love the bad boys don’t we? But I can happily say I have seen most of Firth’s films and find him to be a fantastic actor as well.
Michael Douglas
I guess this one really came from my fandom over Catherine Zeta Jones so I was therefore interested in Douglas and grown to really love and adore some of his work. Yes, not all of it I mean over-sex in so many of his films but he causes the whole bunny boiler thing to happen so surely we cannot ignore that. He just seems to have such charisma about him and that is so attractive! I think The American President really makes you just adore him!
Mark Rylance
A very recent addition to my ever growing list after being blown away by his performance in Bridge of Spies and thinking his character was actually so loveable and well cute. Yes, not the normal response to that film at all. This has also resulted in a trip to London to see a play, he wrote it and is starring in it too Nice Fish, you may want to check back later to see if I have been successful in attempting to meet him at the stage door!
So let me have it in the comments fellow females if you can understand my obsessions or think I am just off the wall? To the men reading this I would also like you know your thoughts as well! Would be pretty cool to see others putting lists like this together?
Who are your wacky and wonderful film related loves?
I can understand your obsession. I have celebrity crushes on men who are almost twice my age, examples: John Barrowman, Gerard Butler and James Marsters (keep in mind I’m in my 20’s). While I don’t have an obsession with anyone on this list, I can see why you love a few of these actors, especially Colin Firth because he’s a fantastic actor.
We all have an obsession with older actors at some point in our lives, whether it be because they are really cute or just fantastic at their job. No shame.

Lol, interesting list! It’s always interesting to see others’ celebrity crushes. I’d love to see more lists like this from you.
What is it exactly about older men that women love? Is it a maturity thing?
And I wouldn’t have guessed Mark Rylance to be on this list in a million years, lol!
When I was younger, I used to have a whole list of celeb crushes! Now, the only ones I can think of now (who are alive and from Hollywood) are Lily Collins and Lauren Cohan.

Glad I’ve managed to come up with something that you didn’t expect, I am sure I am come up with other lists similar to this. I totally missed Cary Grant off so maybe an older Hollywood list could be my next one! I should have also mentioned that as a teenager Orlando Bloom was my biggest love! He’s 10 years older than me so maybe that would have felt more “normal” hahaha

He he…so we all have our crushes 😉 Even I do so being long gone from the teenage days. I mean, why can’t we?

Exactly 😉 I should have mentioned my main teenage crush/love was Orlando Bloom. But I might save it for a special blog post next year as believe it or not he turns 40 in January!

Oh wow…40 already? I can’t believe it. My teenage crush was Christian Slater and he too is looking older. Sometimes I forget that I’ve gotten older too – so, grown with the actors I liked as a teenager. Can’t wait to hear your post on Orlando.

That’s where I “fell in love” with him. I was on the lookout for him throughout the movie – wasn’t bothered with Kevin Costner. I actually wrote a little post on my crush on him a while back for the Reel Infatuation Blogathon. If it runs next year, you can do Orlando Bloom.
