I spend a lot of time at either the cinema or theatre. You will then find reviews from these films and shows!

What Will Be the Highest Grossing Summer Blockbuster?

As we are approaching the summer (hopefully weather wise) that also means that the cinema give us a lot of blockbusters to enjoy and for people to go crazy over. Obviously in terms of cinema this now starts a lot earlier and we have already had some blockbusters head our way and be a massive hit at the box office.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron

This film has already been a massive hit and didn’t do too bad with the critics either 75% on Rotten Tomatoes so certainly a fresh film as well as being the biggest box office seller so far this year! It has faired better on IMDb with a rating of 8.0 which is pretty good, considering people vote for that one!

Furious 7

This is another we have already had hit the cinema and for some strange reason took absolutely loads at the box office for more weeks than I like to think about. Yes I was not a big fan of this film at all, thought it was very average and poor compared to others in the series but the public wanted to see it a lot. Another hit with the critics though with a massive 82% over at Rotten Tomatoes! I must be missing something with this one.

Mad Max: Fury Road

I don’t really have much to say about this film as I really did not fancy watching it at all. I tried to watch one of the original films and I just could not get into it at all. It has an incredible 98% fresh from Rotten Tomatoes. However that still does not make me want to head out and watch it.

Those are the big three films that have already been released. So which other films do we have to look out for to be a box office smash over the summer period? Let’s take a look . . .

Inside Out

The summers big hitter from Pixar which I haven’t really seen much about. But it is due for release this month. I’m not sure if this will do as well as the release of Minions at a similar time. We won’t have long to wait and see!

Jurassic World

I think this is going to do incredible at the box office, I have to admit this is the one I am looking forward to the most! Let’s face it I am a 90s kid and loved Jurassic Park since then and can’t wait to see how this one ends up!

Mission Impossible: Rouge Nation

I actually had no idea that this film had been made until a few weeks ago when I saw a trailer. Seems as though no stopping Tom Cruise and you will never count against this one doing well at the box office.

A couple of late showings which may break the summer smashes:

Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens

A lot of people are very excited about another Star Wars film. I need to re-watch them all I reckon and see if I am a big fan, it’s been a long time and I can’t really remember much about them at all. There’s one thing for sure though Star Wars has a huge fan base and that will make this a huge smash at the box office!

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2

Let’s face it part 1 of the finale was disappointing and just a filler to reach this dramatic climax. It will be a big hit at the box office and I am really looking forward to seeing it. Just wish they would stop cutting the final films into two parts!

Mad Max has been my favourite so far, and by quite a bit. But it won’t make loads of money since it’s rated R.

  3. Star Wars, for sure. I’m pretty sure it will become the highest grossing movie of all-time, may not stay at top for long though, Avatar 2 is coming out next year.

That’s a possibility but I’m not sure everyone will buy into Avatar 2 as much as they did with the first one.

      • Yes, but lets not forget it’s directed by James Cameron, a man who can hypnotize everyone into seeing his movies.

Going way back if you count Furious 7 as a summer movie. I think Inside Out could really surprise people and be huge. I hope so. Pitch Perfect 2 was way bigger than anyone thought.

I did mention that those ones are early summer blockbusters ;-). Inside Out could be interesting one!

  5. How do Star Wars and Mockingjay qualify as “summer blockbusters” given their release dates in winter?

I was just linking the blockbuster types of films … Mentioned the earlier ones from May and June time. So threw this two in at the end, as possibilities of what will be bigger in the long run.

  6. U mention Summer blockbusters, then list SW VII which is not due until December – all th other 6 episodes were released in their respective yrs during May, but it is th franchise wh set th template for all blockbusters anyway.
Hope u enjoy Jurassic World – to me it looks so ridiculous, bt I will probably watch it nxt wk. Success? Difficult to tell – Pratt is there to bring th bucks in
Fury Rd was th most enjoyable movie thus far this yr – in popularity stakes it is th most successful, but highest grosser looks like it cld b Avengers
    Cheers!

Marvel are on a roll that’s for sure! I just felt I had to mention SW as a possibility for big box office takings, even with the very late release.

      June 6, 2015 at 12:19 pm

      • Too late – recently JJ Abrams was going to bring th release forward to combat all th fans leaking info! but looks like we will have to wait until Winter after all
        Cheers!

I think that gives me enough time to re-watch all of the older films. As saw them years ago as a kid.

          June 6, 2015 at 12:39 pm

  7. Furious 7 $1.5billion
Don’t think Avengers will catch up.
And nobody else has a chase this summer.

    June 6, 2015 at 5:01 pm

    • Caz

If only that meant they would quit the Furious series on a high . . .

      June 6, 2015 at 6:00 pm

      • HAHAHAHAHA. That is the worst business model EVER!
