Movie Quote of the Day 89

Very fitting for Christmas day from George Bailey.

“Merry Christmas, movie house! Merry Christmas, Emporium! Merry Christmas, you wonderful old Building and Loan!”

Top 10 – Christmas Movies

As it is Christmas Eve today, I thought the best way to celebrate Christmas on the blog would be to do my top 10 Christmas Movies. The one’s I have grew up watching (and loving) and even more recent films will appear too. As over the past few years some very good Christmas films have been released. The best thing about Christmas films is that you are really restricted to watching them in Decemeber. I mean if you really want to you could watch them in July . . . but that’s just not the same at all! So quite a few films in my collection are only watched at this time of year.

What makes a good Christmas movie then? Well I would say it has to be a very Christmasy message usually involving or revolving around family. Most of the better ones also have the Santa factor too!

Holiday in Handcuffs (2007) Review

Trudie (Hart) is a struggling artist who was working as a waitress and heading to a log cabin to spend Christmas with her family. Until a big problem occurs as she is about to leave with her boyfriend Nick, he breaks up with her. In a panic Trudie then kidnaps stranger David (Lopez) and intends on passing him off as her boyfriend Nick.

Movie Quote of the Day 88

Christmas Eve brings us a lovely quote from the seasonal The Polar Express.

“Just remember, the true spirit of Christmas lies in your heart.”

Movie Quote of the Day 87

Today is what I love to call Christmas Eve Eve and the quote comes from Deck the Halls. Something I think we all must remember in this day and age :)

“That’s what Christmas memories are made from, they’re not planned, they’re not scheduled, nobody puts them in their Blackberry, they just happen.”

Movie Quote of the Day 86

Today’s quote is yet another from Love Actually . . .

I’ll just be hanging around the mistletoe, hoping to be kissed.”

Movie Quote of the Day 85

Today’s quote is another from Love Actually and does sum up what Christmas is all about!

I realized that Christmas is… is the time to be with the people you love.”

Movie Quote of the Day 83

Today’s quote comes from Love Actually and it really is just true Christmas shopping is the worst!

Christmas shopping, never an easy or a pleasant task.”

Movie Quote of the Day 82

Today’s quote is a really cute moment from the first Home Alone film.

“Okay, this is extremely important. Will you please tell Santa that instead of presents this year, I just want my family back?”

Legolas to return in The Hobbit?

Reports around the web today are stating that Orlando Bloom is set to return as Legolas the role which really got him noticed in The Hobbit. After the announcement of Cate Blanchett returning as Galadriel yesterday. Three more actors are in talks at reprising roles, Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Hugo Weaving as Elrond and Andy Serkis as Smeagol/Gollum.

Let’s face it though they have to get the original Lord of the Rings cast members back to reprise their roles it would not be the same if someone else had to take them on. I guess this is another reason why Peter Jackson just had to do The Hobbit too. Surely he would have no problem convincing the actors to come back again.

Filming is still scheduled to start in February 2011. So lets hope the next couple of weeks or even days brings us news of more of the LOTR cast members coming back to make appearances in The Hobbit.

Movie Quote of the Day 81

Today’s quote is another from Elf, it really is a great Christmas film. The greatest insult ever!

“I’m a cotton-headed ninny-muggins.”

The Beaver (2011) Poster & Trailer

Could this film mark the return of Mel Gibson back to the top of the acting world? Well watching the trailer it definitely looks like an emotional journey and a very good performance from Gibson. I’m actually looking forward to this one!

Movie Quote of the Day 80

Today’s quote comes from The Santa Clause . . .

Seeing isn’t believing. Believing is seeing.”

British Independent Film Awards 2010

The awards season has started to kick off the past week or so, with nominations being announced for different awards ceremonies. Well the British Independent Film awards took place last night and the big winner does not come as much of a surprise after all the publicity and hype it has received so far. The King’s Speech picked up the main awards with all three in the acting category. For the lead female Carey Mulligan picked up the award for the second year running after her star turn in An Education last year, this year has seen her pick the award up for Never Let Me Go.

I am really looking forward to seeing both The King’s Speech and Never Let Me Go as both really do look like good films, with fantastic performances. The winning of these awards really must just back that up. Looks like we will be in for some good films coming out in the New Year. Got to love the awards season!

Rest of the awards . . .

Movie Quote of the Day 79

Today’s quote comes from It’s a Wonderful Life. We should all remember how much our life affects all of those around us.

Strange, isn’t it? Each man’s life touches so many other lives. When he isn’t around he leaves an awful hole, doesn’t he?

Movie Quote of the Day 78

The movie quotes leading up to Christmas are all going to have a nice Christmasey feel to them! Starting off with a great quote from Buddy. Everyone’s favorite Elf!

“First we’ll make snow angels for two hours, then we’ll go ice skating, then we’ll eat an entire roll of Toll House cookie dough as fast as we can, and then to finish, we’ll snuggle!”

It’s a Wonderful Life (1946) Review

George Bailey (Stewart) had big dreams, he was going to see the world and do anything and everything to make his life brilliant and get away from small town Bedford Falls. We are taken on the journey of his life up to the present day as an angel called Clarence watches to see how he can help him as he contemplates suicide. This really is seen as such a classic film, a classic Christmas film for that matter. But it really is one of the most depressing films ever, until the last ten minutes! It is a film that you must watch over the Christmas period and you will fall in love with George Bailey.

The King’s Speech (2010) Posters

New posters for “The King’s Speech” seem to keep appearing every few days. While they are not very different from the previous to be released, different words are on them. It really is getting quite a lot of Oscar buzz, with early talk suggesting that it will be nominated for all the major awards. January release for the UK and I am really looking forward to it!

Movie Quote of the Day 77

Been a while since I’ve had the movie quote of the day on my blog. Today’s is the wisdom of Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl.

“Well, yes mate. See, I’m dishonest. And a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly. It’s the honest ones you need to watch out for, because you never know when they’re going to do something incredibly… stupid.”

Christmas 2010 at the Movies

1st December which means we are now officially allowed to watch Christmas movies again (and attempt to get in the Christmas spirit). I reviewed quite a few Christmas films last year, and will probably watch most of them again this year/ After all some of them are my favorite Christmas films. Missed loads though, so be ready for more Christmas reviews if I manage to catch the films of course.

Love Actually I also started doing blogs on the love shared between characters, Billy Mack and Joe. Harry, Karen & Mia.

Home Alone

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York

Fred Claus

Elf

A Christmas Carol 3D

Hopefully I will have some seasonal top 10 lists as well!

Which Christmas films will you be watching first this holiday season?
