News: Stiller To Take Away MTV’s Generation Award

I think this is quite cool for Ben. MTV awards are different to any others as the fans vote for them.

Ben Stiller will take home the MTV Movie Awards’ highest accolade at this year’s ceremony – he will receive the Generation Award for his laughter-packed Hollywood career.

The Meet The Parents funnyman has been named as the recipient of the honour in recognition of giving cinema-goers some of the funniest characters of the last decade, including Zoolander, Gaylord Focker and Tugg Speedman.

Stiller kicked off his career with his own MTV series in the early 1990s, which was subsequently cancelled after one season.

But the actor remembers his time at the channel fondly, even joking he romanced veteran MTV presenter J.J. Jackson.

He says, “I am honoured to be getting the Generation Award. I was given my first show at MTV and also cancelled for the first time. I also was secretly having an affair with J.J. Jackson, so it brings back pleasant memories.”

Stiller joins a stellar list of previous winners of the Generation Award, including Tom Cruise, Jim Carrey, Adam Sandler and Mike Myers.

The Golden Popcorn prizes, nominated and voted for by MTV viewers, will be handed out in Los Angeles on 31 May.

News: Ledger’s Last Film Not A Big Hit Among Critics

It is probably very different to how it was intended with the other actors having to replace Heath and change the appearance. I can imagine it to be confusing, but I am still very much looking forward to seeing it.

Heath Ledger’s final film has been given a lukewarm reception at the Cannes Film Festival – and many critics were shocked to see his character hanging from a London bridge with a rope around his neck in his first scene.

Ledger died in January, 2008 before he completed work on Terry Gilliam’s fantasy film The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus; Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell stepped in to complete his part in the movie.

And though film reviewers have been kind to the late actor in his final role, they’ve not been so taken by Gilliam or his film, which premiered at Cannes this week (beg18May09).

Britain’s TimesOnline critic James Christopher writes, “Ledger is a marvel to watch,” but insists the plot of the film is “slim, incomprehensible, and desperately unconvincing”.

He goes on to suggest the film “could have benefited with a lot more hard story and a lot less whimsy”.

And Guardian critic Peter Bradshaw insists the film is “amiable” but “could be for fans only,” adding “the film’s convoluted curlicues are tiring, insisting too loudly on how ‘imaginative’ everything is”.

News: Pattinson’s Costly Kiss

WOW I bet that is very strange for him for people to be biding that much on a kiss with him.

Robert Pattinson has learned his lips are worth a staggering $20,000 (£13,333) – after a kiss with the actor was auctioned off at a charity event on Thursday.

The Twilight actor offered up his smooch at a gala for the American Foundation for AIDS Research, a fundraiser held at the Cannes Film Festival every year.

The star blushed as he was introduced by movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, who told the crowd they were bidding for a chance to meet, greet and receive a kiss on the cheek from the hunky Brit.

Pattinson joked, “If it goes well, maybe it will turn to something more!”

The bidding jumped to a staggering $20,000, with two lucky guests winning the final prize.

Hollywood couple Joshua Jackson and Diane Kruger also auctioned off a Segway vehicle, while a saxophone donated by former U.S. President Bill Clinton went for $130,000 (£87,000).

News: Batman Bale Caught Snoozing

Awww that is being very laid back, haha.

Batman star Christian Bale ruined his first ever scene as the caped superhero by falling asleep on set.

The British actor claims he never suffers nerves on set, and is so calm during movie shoots, he’s often snoozing when the cameras roll.

Bale tells GQ magazine, “I fall asleep on sets all the time. I’ve done it in the middle of scenes. In Batman Begins, in the first scene I had with Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman, I fell asleep. I was meant to be waking up, so I laid down and just fell asleep.

“I didn’t hear ‘action’ so Michael and Morgan were talking and I was supposed to join in. I woke up with Michael Caine poking me in the ribs, going, ‘Look at that! He’s bloody fallen asleep.’”

News: Douglas Oversees Weapons Debate

I love that Michael is doing that to try and make the world a better place :-)

Hollywood legend Michael Douglas is using his celebrity status to help rid the world of nuclear weapons.

The actor chaired a debate between experts at the Italian embassy in Washington D.C. earlier this week (beg18May09), and used the occasion to question whether U.S. President Barack Obama is addressing the issue.

Robert Gallucci, a former U.S. diplomat who was chief negotiator during the nuclear crisis with North Korea in 1994, told the forum recent talks between the United States and Russia show promise – but there is still concern over the threat of nuclear terrorism.

Douglas has supported the sponsors of the event, the Ploughshares Fund – dedicated to a nuclear weapons-free world – since becoming a member of its board of directors in 2005.

News: British Films Stormed 2008 Box Office

I always love it when British films do well, so that they stormed the box office in 2008 is just brilliant !!!

Batman and James Bond helped make 2008 a bumper year for U.K. movies – British films raked in more than $3.75 billion (£2.5 billion) at the global box office last year.

The Dark Knight, starring Christian Bale and the late Heath Ledger, was the top earner, with just over $1 billion (£666 million) in sales and Quantum Of Solace took $576 million (£384 million) worldwide.

Abba movie musical Mamma Mia!, featuring Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan, also proved a box office smash, taking $602 million (£401 million) since its release in July.

Other Brit films in the top 10 earners of 2008 include fantasy film The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian which took $419 million (£279 million) and The Other Boleyn Girl, starring Natalie Portman, which garnered $75 million (£50 million).

John Woodward of the U.K. Film Council says, “That’s a phenomenal achievement and a measure of film’s contribution to the wider economy.”

Movies are classified as British if they meet criteria on whether the stars, directors, producers and funding come from the U.K.

News: Cooper Faces Up To A-team Rumours

Bradley seems to be wanted for a lot of roles at the moment . . . and I for one am certainly not complaining about that, haha.

Actor Bradley Cooper has set the record straight about the upcoming A-team movie – insisting he has not been signed up to play Faceman in the new film.

Cooper was recently linked to the big screen role of Lieutenant Templeton ‘Faceman’ Peck, made famous by Dirk Benedict in the hit 1980s TV series.

But the star insists comments he made about the project were taken out of context – as he hasn’t even read a script for the A-Team picture.

He tells Chud.com, “A guy came up to me and asked about the character Faceman in The A-Team. I said ‘Oh, that’s out there already?’, but my point was that news about the film is out there. Literally that people knew about the remake, that’s it. I haven’t read a script or met (director) Joe Carnahan.”

The film, scheduled for release in 2010, is rumoured to boast an all-star cast including Bruce Willis, Woody Harrelson and rapper Common.

News: King Kong To Roar Again At Universal

Oooo I think that sounds like it would be really cool :-)

Bosses at Los Angeles movie landmark Universal Studios are to rebuild the King Kong tourist attraction that was destroyed in a 2008 fire which briefly closed the themepark.

The blaze claimed a handful of sets familiar to backlot tour visitors, but the New York street scene, housed in a hangar, was the most famous victim of the fire, which was sparked by company employees using blowtorches to apply roof shingles.

The studio tour was briefly closed but has since been reconfigured to avoid the worst hit fire damaged areas.

And now Universal bosses plan to rebuild the King Kong set ready for a grand re-opening next summer, as part of a digitally upgraded backlot tour.

Universal Studios publicist Audrey Eig says, “King Kong has been an integral part of the studio tour for years. We are happy to be able to bring him back. No one can destroy the great ape.”

The set originally opened in 1986 and has become one of the themepark’s most famous attractions. The new-look King Kong set will be based on that of the 2005 film, which starred Jack Black and Naomi Watts.

Kate and Johnny Header?

Shall I keep the pictures of Kate and Johnny as the header on my blog?

Top 10 of 2008

This is my top 10 list of movies from 2008

So here it goes. Yes your probably thinking, its about time. But I have been trying to complete this since like February haha.

10. Body of Lies

Leonardo DiCaprio is really showing the different depths and roles he can take on. While Russell Crowe ate his way through the film, it must have been some type of record as in nearly every scene he was in he was eating something. I think he put so much weight on for the role as well. It was a pretty long film, and to be completely honest I thought it was going to be a bit boring and drag. But I really got into it and enjoyed it. Mark Strong who was in “RocknRolla” really impressed me in this film.

9. Mamma Mia!

It just had to make the list, because while it is my no means the best film ever made or anything like that. It is such a feel good movie its unreal, you cannot help to smile and be happy while watching (and singing along). Meryl Streep shows that she can sing, and Pierce Brosnan shows that he is up for a laugh as he really can’t sing. Everyone in the theatre started to laugh every time he sung. But it was all in good sport for the movie. It just looks as though all the cast had such a fantastic time while making the movie.

8. Flashbacks of a Fool

Probably not a film many people went to see, I think it was on limited release and only stayed on at the cinema I go to for a week. But with being a huge Daniel Craig fan I really wanted to see this film (yes, I was a little disappointed that he wasn’t in it for a big part of the movie) but that was essential to the story. Harry Eden was fantastic playing the younger Joe Scott. In the story explaining why Joe acted the way he did in the present day.

7. Tropic Thunder

I suppose reading what this movie about is rather complicated. A movie about making a movie, that goes wrong when they end up in a real warzone. But some fantastically funny moments with loads of great one liners. Robert Downey Jr becoming black, Tom Cruise in a fat suit as a movie producer dancing was just hilarious.

6. RocknRolla

I really enjoy the movies that Guy Ritchie makes, and this was no exception. Gerard Butler was just great, but Mark Strong really stood out for me. He was just fantastic and I loved the Archie slap, pure brilliance. So funny but so serious all at the same time, love it. It was like Richie’s other movies in terms of the swearing and violence. But also so funny like his other movies, I would say this is his best since Snatch (not as good though – but close). I was a little annoyed with the ending as it suggested sequel straight away. Just concentrate on one movie at a time, haha.

5. Iron Man

Probably the biggest supriseof the year for me, as I hadn’t read much about this or heard any of the hype about it before I went to see it. I love the comic book adaptation movies, so was like ok “Iron Man” will see what its like. Ended up totally loving it. Robert Downey Jr was just again so great as Tony Stark.I loved the whole story of how he became Iron Man and trying out the different suits was so funny. It was a typical early summer blockbuster. You really cannot beat a comic book movie.

4. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Benjamin Button was born old and getting younger. This causes a problem when he meets the love of his life,       but they do eventually meet in the middle and manage to have a few years together when they are physically the same age, although in reality he is only a year or two older than her. A really adorable love story and the chemistry between Brad and Cate was just fantastic. I really loved how much they cared for each other and looked after each other in a backwards way of the ageing process.

3. The Dark Knight

Probably a suprise this isn’t my number 1 but it was such a difficult decision to make. “The Dark Knight” was such a fantastic installment in the new batman series brought to us by Christopher Nolan with Christan Bale in the helm as Batman/Bruce Wayne. With such incredible actors, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman as support to Bale, and the introduction of the Joker portrayed by the late Heath Ledger, it was really just an incredible movie. Heath Ledger brought a whole different edge to the Joker and was so psychotic. Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent deserves some praise as well , as he was another major part in the puzzle for the great cast.

2. In Bruges

Biggest surprise package of the year. Not much was really said about this movie at the time of release, which was April time. It was such a refreshing British movie which basically offended everyone it could (with so many different jokes to laugh at). A story of two hitmen hiding out in Bruges, is such an interesting story. As it unfolds why they are there, its rather sad and the emotions are flying. Fantastic screenplay, totally original. Colin Farrell was brilliant as Ray, who was most of the time like a spoilt child.

1. The Wrestler

Brilliant, its just totally unreal. I fell for this film well and truly and I feel for the ram, I felt everything for him and cried with him. Mickey Rourke is truly brilliant and put so much into the role it. I was a fan of this from just watching the trailer as I just knew that I was going to love it from the Bruce Springsteen song played over the trailer. (Which is also on the credits). I firmly think this film is my joint favorite with ‘Million Dollar Baby’. Yes I have a thing for sport, and can understand the need and desire to compete in your chosen sport.

Movie Picture of the Day 17

Todays picture of the day is going to be from Moulin Rouge . . . spectacular, spectacular. I think this picture is just great. I adore the romance of this movie.

10 Things I Hate About You (1999) Review

This movie is based on Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew. I think its good to have a modern take on Shakespeare plays, as if you study them at any level it can help you understand the meanings that are so often hiden and lost in the ages now. I like the way that this one was done. Plus Heath Ledger is just so adorable in it, and this was probably the movie everyone started paying real attention to him as a one for the future.

News: Bloom And Kerr Engaged?

Awwww how lucky is she if its true ?!?!!? Yeah ok I am a little jealous . . .

Miranda Kerr has prompted rumours she’s made her relationship with actor Orlando Bloom official – after the supermodel was photographed with a gold ring on her wedding finger.

The Victoria’s Secret model, 26, was snapped showing off the jewellery after spending time with Bloom at the Cannes Film Festival in France.

Kerr, who has since returned to work in New York, denied reports she was engaged to the Pirates of the Caribbean star, 32, last November, and she recently insisted she was “too busy” with her career to think about marriage.

But her representative Carlii Lyon is remaining coy about the new claims, saying: “I am aware of the images. However, I am not in a position to comment.”

A spokesperson for Bloom had not returned requests for comment as WENN went to press.

News: Weinsteins Get In The Ring With Bale And Wahlberg For The Fighter

I very much like the sound of this !!!

Movie mogul siblings Bob and Harvey Weinstein have picked up Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg’s boxing movie.

The Weinstein Company has acquired the international rights to The Fighter and is now selling the film at the Cannes Film Festival in France.

The film, about Massachsetts boxing brothers Dickie Eklund (Bale) and ‘Irish’ Micky Ward (Wahlberg), is currently in pre-production. David O. Russell will direct.

The project joins an impressive list of upcoming movies for the Weinsteins, who will also be handling Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, Rob Zombie’s Halloween sequel H2 and the much-anticipated musical Nine, which features an all-star cast including Daniel Day Lewis, Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson, and Judi Dench.

News: Pattinson set for fourth Twilight

I think this is really good news :-)

Twilight star Robert Pattinson has confirmed that there will be a fourth film in the vampire series.

Speaking at the Cannes Film Festival, the 23-year-old said the movie would be based on Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling novel, Breaking Dawn.

He added he was currently in the final days of shooting the second film, New Moon, in Italy and would start third movie, Twilight: Eclipse, in October.

The first instalment topped the UK and US box offices last year.

The series tells the story of a romance between Bella, a teenage mortal, and Edward, a decades-old vampire.

Pattinson said his role in New Moon had been beefed up compared to the book, in which Edward is simply “a voice in Bella’s head”.

“You’re playing a figment in Bella’s imagination so I was trying to do it in a 2D way. I hope it doesn’t translate onscreen as being boring,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

In between Twilight films, Pattinson said he plans to star in Remember Me, a film about a man who spends six weeks working out whether he loves someone or not.

Because of his other movie commitments, there was no definitive start date for the fourth movie, he added.

News: Parker On The Offensive Over Surrogate Expose

Can totally understand that Sarah is not happy with the identity of the woman who is her surrogate being found out and put in magazines and papers.

Sarah Jessica Parker has taken aim at America’s Star magazine over the measures journalists and photographers are going to to unearth information about the woman carrying the actress’ surrogate twins.

Parker admits she is “incredibly outraged” by the ‘outing’ of the birth mum-to-be – and the fact even the young woman’s friends are being tailed by the paparazzi.

In an exclusive TV interview with news show Access Hollywood, she says, “(It’s) an extraordinary and unprecedented invasion of her privacy.

“The most unsavoury things have been done. She’s had her phone hacked, her personal computer information hacked, she’s had threats against her and true harassment… She’s had friends threatened and family threatened and she’s had family of friends threatened.

“She’s had a friend, who was thought to be her, chased down a highway… This friend is nine months pregnant.

“It’s crossed lines… Pretty much all the lines have been crossed… There’s simply no excuse for doing this to somebody. It’s not acceptable.”

But Parker insists, whatever dirt the tabloids dredge up on her surrogate, that she and husband Matthew Broderick have made the right choice: “I’m beyond comfortable with who she is. We haven’t been reckless, we haven’t been cavalier. She hasn’t been reckless.”

The actress only wishes she could be of more service to the woman expecting her twins: “It’s really incredibly upsetting to think of her so far away and me not being able to do something, beyond what I’m legally allowed to do.”

A statement from Star magazine reads, “Star denies that it used any unfair tactics in getting information for the article about Sarah Jessica Parker’s surrogate.”

News: DiCaprio’s Bid To Play Sinatra

WOW I think thats fantastic dedication to land the role from Leonardo.

Leonardo DiCaprio has reportedly hired a vocal coach to teach him to sing in a bid to win the role of Frank Sinatra in Martin Scorsese’s upcoming biopic.

The actor, who previously worked with Scorsese on Howard Hughes biopic The Aviator, is said to be training with a voice expert to learn how to mimic the late Rat Pack crooner’s distinctive sound.

A source tells British newspaper The Sun, “Leo has hired a top vocal coach to get him sounding like Sinatra. He is a massive fan of the singer and has always wanted to play him. He would be sick to miss out on the leading role because his singing wasn’t up to scratch. He is now in intensive vocal coaching lessons to replicate Sinatra’s distinctive style.”

DiCaprio will have to work hard to master Sinatra’s hits – he is facing stiff competition from singers Harry Connick, Jr. and Jamie Foxx, who have also been tipped for the part.

News: Aykroyd Confirms Ghostbusters 3 Is All Go

I think this is great news !!! I love the Ghostbusters !!!

Dan Aykroyd has confirmed the third Ghostbusters movie is all set to go before the cameras – with the original cast in place to reprise the characters from the 1984 film.

The movie star reveals Sigourney Weaver has signed on for the project, alongside himself, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson – and the film could start shooting this winter.

Aykroyd still fears the project could “blow up” “at any second” but he hopes the new film will herald in a new generation of all-girl Ghostbusters.

He tells the Los Angeles Times newspaper, “I’d like it to be a passing-of-the-torch movie. Let’s revisit the old characters briefly and happily and have them there as family but let’s pass it on to a new generation.”

And the actor wants Alyssa Milano and Eliza Dushku to consider becoming part of the Ghostbusters family: “I think they’re amazing.”

New Moon (2009) Poster

I think this looks like it could be a teaser poster for New Moon. I am very exicted about this movie, I adored the Twilight book and I am currently reading New Moon. Which I will have finished by the time the movie comes out.

I really like the look of this poster though, I think it kinda explains the whole story of New Moon . . .

City Island (2009) Poster

This is the poster for Andy Garcia’s up and coming movie “City Island”.
