Movie Quote of the Day 12

Missed posting a quote yesterday. So here is today’s, from “The Bucket List”.

“You measure yourself by the people who measure themselves by you.”

Dark Knight Tops $1 Billion Takings At Worldwide Box Office

Incredible to see that “The Dark Knight” has reached the $1 billion mark on the worldwide box office. I bet studio bosses were not expecting it to be as successful as this as “Batman Begins” didn’t make anywhere near as much as 1 billion dollars.

Batman movie The Dark Knight has taken more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office, making it the fourth highest grossing film of all time.

The action movie, starring Christian Bale and the late Heath Ledger, was an instant success when it was released last summer.

And now it has taken more than $1 billion in movie theatres – including $533.1 million (£372.8 million) in U.S. cinemas, and more than $468 million (£327 million) overseas.

Titanic remains the highest grossing film of all time, with takings of $1.84 billion. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King is second with earnings of $1.12 billion and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest is third with $1.07 billion.

Jolie And Hanks Named Most Popular Oscar Winners Ever

Probably the expected results from this poll. Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, Morgan Freeman and Angelina Jolie, voted the favorites for best actor, actress and supporting categories. Titanic favorite of the best picture winners.

Angelina Jolie, Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts have come out triumphant in a poll to find America’s favourite ever Academy Awards winners.

Hanks has twice walked away with the Best Actor Oscar, for 1993′s Philadelphia and the following year’s Forrest Gump.

He saw off competition from Russell Crowe (Gladiator) and late star Paul Newman (The Color of Money) to be crowned America’s most popular winner of the trophy, according to a joint survey by U.S. magazine Parade and Entertainment Tonight to mark the annual ceremony on Sunday.

Morgan Freeman was named the top Best Supporting Actor for 2004′s Million Dollar Baby, seeing off Sean Connery (The Untouchables) and George Clooney (Syriana).

Roberts, who won an Oscar for her turn in Erin Brockovich in 2000, was America’s favourite Best Actress winner, beating Reese Witherspoon (Walk The Line) and Jodie Foster (The Accused) to the honour.

Jolie was recognised as Best Supporting Actress in 1999’s Girl, Interrupted, and saw off Renée Zellweger (Cold Mountain) and Whoopi Goldberg (Ghost) in the Parade poll.

1997′s Titanic remains the public’s favourite Best Film winner, ahead of The Godfather and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.

The Wrestler (2008) Movie Music Video

The music video for “The Wrestler” both movie and song of the same name. Appeared on youtube the other day, a friend sent me the link to it and it only had a couple of hundred views. But today when I have just clicked on the link it has over 28,000 views at the moment. This was over the past couple of days. For those who haven’t seen the fantastic music video with Bruce Springsteen in the ring:

New in Town (2009)

This movie comes out in the UK on Friday. I will be going straight to see it. It looks like it is going to be a very enjoyable romantic comedy. (Although after watching the rubbish that was “He’s just not that into you” anything could be good). But this really does look funny, and Renee Zellweger does romantic comedies very well see “Bridget Jones Diary” and even “Down with Love”.

‘Oscars list’ dismissed as fake

I wouldn’t be too sad if most of those were true. Especially for Mickey and “In Bruges”. I still hold a little bit of hope that “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” will cause a major upset to “Slumdog Millionaire” but don’t really see that happening too much.

Oscar organisers have dismissed a list claiming to reveal all those poised for Academy Awards as a “complete fraud”.

The document, circulating on the internet, names Kate Winslet as best actress for her role in The Reader.

The list, which features an authentic-looking letterhead, also claims British film Slumdog Millionaire will bag the best picture and best director prizes.

Academy spokeswoman Leslie Unger said it was a forgery and the event’s auditors were still counting votes.

“The document is a complete fraud,” she said.

“There are only two people there who will know the complete list of winners in advance of the envelopes being opened during the ceremony.”

Reports say the document appears to carry the signature of Sid Ganis, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which presents the Oscars.

Ms Unger added: “The Academy’s president is not advised of the winners in advance and no such list is created.”

Globes blunder

The document also names Mickey Rourke as best actor for his role in The Wrestler and the late Heath Ledger as best supporting actor for The Dark Knight.

Best supporting actress is named as Amy Adams for Doubt and the list also claims In Bruges will get the best original screenplay award.

It is not the first time this awards season that there have been rumours regarding supposed winners.

Golden Globe organisers were forced to apologise last month for a blunder on the awards website which suggested Anne Hathaway had won a best actress gong for Rachel Getting Married.

An asterisk had appeared by mistake on the site next to Hathaway’s name in a list of nominees, sparking a flurry of reports that she would receive the award.

Winslet, who went on to win ahead of Hathaway, has been nominated for an Oscar on five previous occasions, but has yet to take home an Academy statuette.

However, she remains the favourite for the award following her double win at the Golden Globes and success at the Critics’ Choice Awards.

As she attended a flurry of pre-Oscar parties, the actress told the BBC News website she was “permanently anxious” but “very excited” about the ceremony on Sunday.

Jackman Jokes About Oscar Night

I wouldn’t complain !!!

Australian actor Hugh Jackman has cheekily suggested he will be hosting the upcoming Oscars ceremony completely naked – following a string of rumours about his role in the show.

Jackman has been at the centre of wide speculation about his role as MC at the Academy Awards on Sunday night ever since he was unveiled as the event’s host last year.

Recent internet reports have suggested he will open the glitzy ceremony by performing a song-and-dance routine with Oscar nominee Anne Hathaway.

And Jackman has now taken the opportunity to make fun of the endless gossip surrounding the event – by jokingly declaring he will take to the stage completely naked and sing all his links.

He says, “I haven’t told anyone this, but we are going to do most of it naked and we’re going to sing through the whole show.

“In fact, all the acceptance speeches are going to be sung. There will be some interpretive dance behind them, and I really think it will be beautiful and touching.

“There will be a strategic leaf placed here or there. We don’t want to be distasteful or anything. This is a raw night. This is the Oscars. Raw emotion, that’s the quality we’re going for.”

Is Mickey Rourke Back In ‘Iron Man 2’?

I really hope he is back in for “Iron Man 2″

Earlier this week, Splash Page reported on the latest in what’s become a string of make-your-head-spin “Iron Man 2’” casting rumors, as Mickey Rourke declared that he was dropping out of the “Iron Man” sequel, simply stating that, “Right now, we’re not doing ‘Iron Man 2.’”

However — if a report on Entertainment Weekly can be trusted — there still may be a glimmer of hope for fans who were looking forward to seeing the Oscar-nominated actor take a turn as one of ol’ Shellhead’s rogues. According to unnamed sources, the offer by Marvel Entertainment made to Rourke still stands, adding “nothing’s yet being negotiated.”

As mentioned, Rourke has become just the latest in a series of “are they in or are they out?” casting rumors regarding the sequel to 2008’s “Iron Man,” and speculation has been running rampant that it might have to do with money-saving initiatives that include asking A-list actors and actresses to take on roles for as little as $250,000. (On a side note, we know some people who would play Marvel’s superheroes in a feature film for half that price, by the way. Heck, they’d do it for free.)

These rumored initiatives might have already cost them fan-favorite actor Samuel L. Jackson, who said he might not return to the role of Nick Fury in future Marvel films (although the actor never stated his exact reasons, he did hint at an “economic crisis” at Marvel).

In any event, be sure to keep it locked to Splash Page for the latest “Iron Man 2’ developments.

Julia Roberts Learned From Her Leading Men

JULIA ROBERTS is grateful to have shared screen time with prank-loving actors RICHARD GERE and MEL GIBSON – because their onset antics gave her early insight into the male psyche.

She tells Allure magazine, “Early on, I worked with Richard Gere and Denzel (Washington) and Dennis Quaid and Mel Gibson, and all these profoundly smart, handsome guys. I was lucky enough to be part of their lives and become friends with them, and it is interesting to understand a solid perspective of the male psyche as a person who’s non-threatening to that guy. Men are so revealing when they’re not trying to woo you, when you’re not intimidated or being flirty, when you’re just interested.”

And the movie star, who is now married to cameraman Danny Moder, admits that developing a platonic bond with the leading men helped her gain confidence around the opposite sex. Roberts was in her twenties when she first appeared alongside Gere in 1990 romantic comedy Pretty Woman, and with Gibson in their 1997 film Conspiracy Theory.

Rourke Fears Missing Out On Oscar

I hope he doesn’t really believe that. It should all be based on his incredible performance in “The Wrestler”.

Mickey Rourke fears he will miss out on the Best Actor prize at the upcoming Academy Awards – as payback for his troubled past relationships with Hollywood movie executives.

The actor has made a triumphant return to the big-screen having spent years out of the limelight after a string of run-ins with film bosses, well documented troubles with the law and a failed foray into professional boxing.

He has already secured prestigious Golden Globe and BAFTA awards for his comeback performance in The Wrestler and is widely tipped to take home a coveted Oscar prize.

But Rourke is convinced he will be shunned by the Academy at Sunday’s ceremony – as punishment for his past hot-headed behaviour.

He says, “It’s voted for by people from the movie business and in the past I’ve hacked them all off. I was good at that. It came easy to me. I stupidly said acting wasn’t a job for a real man. I threatened producers, raged at directors, forgot my agent’s name. I really burned my bridges. And a lot of people have long memories.”

Oscar Winners – Pictures

As the Oscars is only 2 days away. I thought one way to celebrate is to post some pictures of previous winners with the Gold statue in hand.

Martin Scorsese eventually won as Oscar for “The Departed”. Presented to him by Francis Ford Coppola, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg.

Breakfast At Tiffany’s (1961) Review

Audrey Hepburn plays that daring, darling Holly Golightly to a new high in entertainment delight!

I must admit that I had never previously watched “Breakfast At Tiffany’s” although I had heard a lot about it. Audrey Hepburn really is so naturally elegant. The relationship formed between Holly and Paul, is such a lovely tale of romance when you least expect it. Paul moves into the same building in which Holly lives in. He really must think shes a bit crazy when they first meet. When she explains that her cat is just called cat as they don’t belong to each other. Mickey Rooney’s performance as Mr. Yunioshi was just fantastic, it even took my a while to realise that it was him.

At the end I really did think she was going to leave, but the rain and searching for the cat . . . yes cat is the cat’s name. Don’t ask, just watch the movie. The way they look at each other just before she finds the cat is incredible, then the way he looks at her when she wraps it in her coat, with moonriver begineing to play over. Then they kiss in the rain, its so cliche but works so fantastically well in this classic film that shows how movies should be made. Sometimes less is more, in my opinion. One of the many reasons why I enjoyed watching older movies.

Mickey Rourke on Jonathan Ross

Just when I thought I couldn’t love Mickey Rourke anymore. I’ve come across a picture of him with a wrestling mask on from his stint on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross. Which goes out tonight on BBC1 at 10.35pm in the UK. I really cannot wait to see it !!!

Has success gone to Mickey Rourke’s head? The 56-year-old Oscar nominee hid behind a bizarre horned mask on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross.

But the wacky headgear was actually a prop from his movie The Wrestler, for which he is up for the Best Actor gong at Sunday’s Oscars.

He told Ross: “It’s the hardest movie I ever had to make. There were moments when it was too close to home.”

Hathaway To Open Oscars With Song-and-dance Man Jackman?

This will be interesting if it turns out to be true!

Oscar nominee Anne Hathaway is to open the Academy Awards with a song-and-dance routine, according to reports.

The Rachel Getting Married star was spotted rehearsing for a variety number at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on Thursday and insiders claim she’ll perform with Oscars host Hugh Jackman to kick off Sunday’s show.

The actress will be one of many stars who are set to join Jackman onstage, if reports are to be believed; Beyonce Knowles and High School Musical couple Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens are rumoured to be teaming up with the host for musical numbers.

2009 Independent Spirit Awards

At last “The Wrestler” is actually nominated for Best Picture in some awards !!!

I have underlined which I would like to win for the awards. Will find out on Saturday if my favorites have won.

New movie in the works for Julia Roberts

Julia Roberts to shoot for Brad Pitt’s next movie in India

Hollywood actress Julia Roberts who had recently visited India with hubby Danny Moder in tow will be returning soon.
The ‘Pretty Woman’ actress has reportedly signed a new movie to be produced by Brad Pitt. The movie titled ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ is a film about an American woman`s journey across the world to find love.

It is believed the flick is based on a book by Elizabeth Gilbert. In the book, divorced Gilbert tells of how she abandoned her comfortable life in New York after divorce and journeyed from Italy to Indonesia before she finally landed in India and found love.

Though not much is known about the lead actor opposite Roberts but according to inside reports, the writer refused to sell the rights to her epic tale unless Roberts agreed to sign up for the lead role.

Movie Quote of the Day 9

Totally random quote from “Indecent Proposal”

“The things two people do to each other they remember. If they stay together, its not because they forget, its because they forgive.”

1 Week

Well I have made it to 1 week posting a few different things everyday. A few reviews and a quote each day. I have quite a lot of reviews in draft form at the moment. So will have quite a few to post in the coming week. Lets hope I can keep this up !!!

Movie Quote of the Day 8

This is possibly how I feel right now. From Dirty Dancing

“Me? I’m Scared of everything. I’m scared of what I saw. I’m scared of what I did, of who I am and most of all I’m scared of walking out of this room and never feeling the rest of my whole life the way I feel when I’m with you.”

Movie Quote of the Day 7

Today’s quote is from “The Wrestler”. Hopefully next week Mickey Rourke will have the Oscar in his hand :-)

“In this life you can lose everything you love, everything that loves you. A lot of people told me that I’d never wrestle again. The only one that’s gonna tell me when I’m through doing my thing is, you people here.”

Mickey Rourke – Suitcase Problems

Mickey Rourke must really love his shoes !!!

EXCLUSIVE Mickey Rourke nabbed at Heathrow for having 5 1/2 ST of loafers in case

Hollywood star Mickey Rourke stunned airline staff when he turned up with a suit case weighing 5 1/2 -stone… packed full of SHOES.

Hellraiser Rourke’s bulging bag of loafers was over the weight limit. So before he could check in at Heathrow for his £2,500 first-class BA flight to New York, he had to redistribute his shoes among his other suitcases.

Legendary womaniser Rourke, 56, was on his way home on Wednesday after an eight-day stay in London, where he had won a best actor BAFTA for his role in hit movie The Wrestler.

“It was really weird and extraordinary to watch, ” said an airline source. “Five-and-a-half stone – 36kg – of shoes is one heck of a lot of shoes, especially for a bloke.

“Staff thought at first he must have had his BAFTA in the case.

“It was freezing cold but he had no socks on and a pair of blue slip-ons with very low heels. And it turned out that he had about 40 pairs of shoes very similar to the ones he was wearing in the case.

“It’s the sort of thing you’d expect of Victoria Beckham, but not of a tough guy like Mickey Rourke.”

The multi-award winning Wrestler is Rourke’s big comeback film after years in the wilderness caused by drugs and drinking .

With obvious parallels to Rourke’s own life story, the movie tells the story of a washed-up fighter’s last shot at the big time.

I love how they thought his BAFTA was in the case, when it turned out to just be shoes, haha. I just love Mickey !!!!
